MG MS-09RS Rick-DOM Char Custom (Daban)

Hi folks, is me again :) 3 reviews within a week thanks to DABAN ;)

Same as the MG EX-S, DABAN managed to surprised me with the announcement of Rick-DOM Char Custom... I was hoping for DOM from one of the bootleg manufacturer and really to my surprise DABAN decided to do the Char's version over the normal version... I can now hope for Char's Z'Gok, Gelgoog, Rick-Dias, etc :)

Manufacturer: Daban
Scale: 1/100
Grade: MG
Origin: Gundam MSV
Price: RM75 special price (Normal price RM85. Email me at DuelMasterNG@yahoo.com for latest price and availability)

Let's get it on!

Section 1: Runners

This replication is very nicely done with most detailing intact (not much on the outer armor but pretty nice inner frame)! I would say this is close to 98% of the original ;)

The plastic quality is the usual of Daban but this kit comes in glossy/shinny finishing almost entirely :P and this kit is BULKY! Just look at the feet!

Section 2: Decals & Accessories

This kit comes with a dry-sticker decals and dry-transfer decals. The quality of dry-transfer and dry-stickers are excellent and closely rival the original from Bandai.

As accessories, this kit comes with a 1/20 Char Aznable figurine! and a big red "dot" for the sensor of the Beam Bazooka ;)

Section 3: Preview

Just a preview on the big a$$ Beam Bazooka ;)

Section 4: Skeleton Build

My usual skeleton build ;)

The Legs

Detailing are fantastic! Articulations are not bad too ;) This is replicated perfectly from the original.

Waist Unit

Very straight-forward frame :P

Abdomen

Well, you would mostly see a block of black thing here :P This piece added some for of articulation on the chest unit ;)

Chest and Thrusters

Another straight-forward piece here... it uses ball-joint to connect with the abdomen unit ;)

Arms

Well, as you can see, there's no inner-frame structure for the arms.

Head

No much on parts separations... however, the mono-eye can move in 4 directions ;)

Zaku II: Let me introduce my successor... naked :P

Section 5: The Legs

HUGE legs! Pretty solid build with good articulations :) Not much detailing unless you want to craft it yourself :P

Section 6: The Waist Unit

The waist unit looks as if it does not permits much movement for the hip but not true... the front skirts can actually flipped up allowing even the front-kick posing ;)

You might be asking about side kick but with ball-joint, that's not possible at all :P and you are right, the back skirt is not moveable.

Section 7: The Abdomen Unit

The abdomen is actually in dark greyish instead of black, but you would only see it as a black block :P This is where the cockpit is located and yes, the pilot figure is included and in black color :P

Section 8: The Chest Unit

With outer armor, it looks much nicer than the naked version :P Same as the legs, not much detailing unless you want to craft them yourself ;)

Section 9: The Arms and Shoulder Unit

As mentioned above, there is no inner frame for the arms so they are same as previous... the shoulder unit is very straight forward and they are attached to the arm unit.

Section 10: The Head Unit

Another straight-forward piece. Not fancy but it gets the job done and gave us a nice head :P There is actually a transparent visor piece but you might want to consider not putting that if you occasionally wanted to change the direction of the mono-eye :P

Section 11: Rick-DOM, StandART :P

Just standing :P

Size Comparison with Zaku II Char Custom

Imaging a Char kick onto the Zaku II :P

Section 12: Weaponry

Ex-T2-2 Beam Bazooka

H&L-GB05R/360mm Giant Bazooka

160mm (Zaku) Machine Gun

Section 13: Posing with Heat Rod :P

Section 14: Look at the Big A$$ Beam Bazooka

Are you looking for a fight?

Quick Review

Plastic Quality and Detailing

Detailing for this kit is very nice done and my evaluation is as close as 98% to the original ;). As for the plastic, the quality is the usual of Daban getting better :)

Articulations

Articulations are not that great, but it is surprisingly good for a bulky kit :P
  • Head/Neck: LOL... no neck... the head is basically not moveable unless you take away the collar piece :P
  • Shoulder: Good, but with older ball-joint system.
  • Arm/Elbow: Good.
  • Wrist: Good.
  • Hand: Good.
  • Waist: Bad... can only more a little bit due to the bulky waist armor.
  • Skirt Armour: Good.
  • Hip/Tight: Normal.
  • Knee: Good.
  • Ankle: Good.
  • Feet: Good.

Looks and Feels

The detailing is very good and come close to 98% of the original! The plastic quality is the improving Daban quality so no issue at all :) Just take note that this kit come in glossy/shiny finishing.

The technology and design is a bit outdated as this kit was made way back in time. But despite that, this kit still looks AWESOME ;)

The snap-fit is very nicely done as I do not have any issue at all snap-fitting the whole kit. The articulations and pose-ability is pretty awesome for a kit this bulky :P

Overall, this kit is VERY nice and a very viable replacement of the original! As usual, for those of you who can afford, do buy and support original ;)

Fin ;)
