HG AMS-129 Geara Zulu (Daban)

Hi folks :) Long time no see :P

I have been busy with work lately thus less time to do review. Anyway, we've got a new player in HG space! Let us welcome Daban into the picture!

I actually don't know which on comes first, this Geara Zulu or the Stark Jegan, but looking at the serial number of 102 va 104, I am doing this Geara Zulu first ;)

Manufacturer: Daban
Scale: 1/144
Grade: HG
Origin: Gundam Unicorn UC0096
Price: RM30 (Contact me at DuelMasterNG@yahoo.com for availability)

Please take note that I did minor coloring and panel lining ;)

Section 1: Runners

Detailing are as good as the original! I actually could not find any flaw with detailing but maybe I just don't have a Bandai Geara Zulu to compare :P I'll give this a 95%.

The plastics quality is pretty good, although they are a little glossier compare to the original ;)

Section 2: Stickers

The stickers are pretty nicely done to good accuracy. I just wished that they are a little bit more stickier... you might want to apply additional glue if you intent to used them ;)

Section 3: Legs

Very good detailing :) There is no snap-fitting issue and it just as good as the original.

Section 4: Waist Unit

Another nicely done section that snap-fitted perfectly ;)

Section 5: Chest Unit

As you can see, nicely done too ;)

Section 6: Arms & Shoulders

Same as most mono-eye, small shield at right arm and round/spiky armor at left shoulder :) Nicely done too.

Just a small note, you might need to apply a little more force when pushing in the hands into the polycaps as they are a bit tight. The entire wrist peg should go into the polycap and not half dangling ;)

Section 7: Head Unit

Snap-fitted nicely :)

Section 8: Fresh from the Production ;)

Can you differentiate between this and original by just looking at it?

Section 9: Weaponry

There are tons of weapons here as you can see... there are Tekken Bazooka, Beam Machine Gun, Grenade Launcher, Hand Grenade, Beam Hawk, and extra magazines. There's also a holder to place the Beam Hawk, Hand Grenade and Tekken Bazooka at the back skirt armor.

Section 10: Posing Time

Section 11: Side-by-Side with Stark Jegan

On the statistics, Geara Zulu is 20m tall where Stark Jegan is 19.2m ;)

Quick Review

Plastic Quality and Detailing

Detailing are as good as the original! I actually could not find any flaw with detailing but maybe I just don't have a Bandai Geara Zulu to compare :P I'll give this a 95%.

The plastics quality is pretty good, although they are a little glossier compare to the original ;)

Articulations

Articulations are good, but nowhere near fantastic...

  • Head/Neck: Good, but side way movement would be hindered by the collar.
  • Shoulder: Very good, with pull-out mechanism ;)
  • Arm/Elbow: Normal, @ 90 degree bending.
  • Wrist: Normal, with ordinary wrist movement.
  • Hand: Normal, with HG fixed hands.
  • Waist: Good, but movement will be hindered when fully loaded.
  • Skirt Armour: Good!
  • Hip/Tight: Good!
  • Knee: Normal.
  • Ankle: Good.

Looks and Feels

The detailing are nicely done with almost no lost of any detailing. As you can see from the pictures, this is as good as the original :)

This is a very viable replacement for the original and a good option for kit-bashing. However, if you can afford, do buy original ;)

Fin :)
